Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales  is already dropping off quickly at the U.S. box office. Last weekend the film exploded into theaters with major gusto at $78M for a four day haul, and has accumulated nearly $397M as of yet, worldwide. My take? Wonder Woman has muscled the shit out of Pirates, largely because people are tired of yet another formulaic Johnny Depp film. People are tired of his gold-toothed quirky antics, terrible hygiene, and atrocious faux accent. People are just bored with the concept and were looking for something new and fresh and exciting, and found it in Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman. Domestically, Pirates didn’t even do as well other installments, including Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, which both cracked $100M in their first frame. Dead Men Tell No Tales dropped a precipitously 78% in its second frame, which probably means that Dead Me Tell No Tales won’t make as much as its predecessors, and has largely lost a good percentage of its interest, barring a day when Pirates 6 debuts next to nothing at theaters.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is playing now, if you care.
