So Matt Reeves, of Cloverfield and Planet of the Apes fame, the guy who is luckily getting to fill Nolan’s shoes pretty soon, thinks there’s a fair comparison between Batman and War for the Planet of the Apes Caesar, the all-cgi beast motion-acted by Andy Serkis.

Speaking to Comic Book , Reeves revealed that he sees the lead ape as his very one Capeless Crusader:

“I see this parallel between Caesar and Batman, really, which is this idea of these characters who are grappling with their own struggle and trying to do the right thing in an imperfect world and, so, I do really relate it to that kind of idea.”

Speaking about The Batman, Reeves said that he will begin focusing his efforts on the project soon – and similar to his relationship with Caesar, he is looking to for a way to connect with Bruce Wayne:

“Look, I’m just starting Batman because literally, [War for the Planet of the Apes], as I just said, we finished about a week ago and now we’re publicizing it. So, we haven’t even begun on Batman. For me, what’s always important is to try and find a personal way in. In that way, I do feel like I relate to actors. It’s about understanding emotionally, the way something is.

My take: you know I read the comments over at Screenrant where this piece of shit news appeared, and I think it’s all bullshit. Someone commented to the effect that they are the “same” because they both feel compelled to protect those nearest to them. Caesar has his fellow apes, Batman has his fellow Gothamites. And that’s that. It’s a load of nothing to make a news story out of, but I used it because it was easy to do. It had lots of quotes and I had to write a less than usual. I’ll say this though: the two are really nothing alike. One’s an ape, one’s a bat. One leads a brutal war against humanity, the other leads a controlled war against crime. One is civilized to the extreme. the other is not. Comparison my asshole.
