The latest promo for War For the Planet of the Apes has just dropped. This time Caesar’s a father under Matte Reeve’s direction in a trilogy of films begun by Rupert Wyatt way back in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Wyatt decided not to return to the helm for the second film, opening the door for Matt Reeves, who directed 2008’s Cloverfield.
Seems critics are already banging the drum for the sequel to Reeve’s critically-acclaimed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and it’s not even in theaters yet.
Check it out the promo, entitled a Legend Becomes A Father, below
Synopsis: After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.
My take: looks good, actually. Very emotionally felt. Seems they’re also trying to tie the film into Father’s Day with the fact that Caesar himself becomes a father at some point. And the CGI doesn’t falter much that I can tell, either, thanks to excellent motion capture, rigging, muscle dynamics and hair systems. Definitely better than anything I’ve seen coming out of OATS STUDIOS at this point.
