Apparently the third John Wick film, John Wick 3, will in part explore the man’s bloody origins and the crucible of fire that made him the killer of boogeymen he came to be in the first two films.

We saw how in the first film, he lost his car and his dog, only to come out on top with a new dog and a lot of dead bodies behind. Revenge for John Wick is not a skill, it’s an art. In John Wick 2, we again saw John Wick lose something: his car and house. He then angered the High Table, a council of unseen crime bosses, by killing inside the Continental Hotel.

Now, while speaking with The Independent, Stahelski touched upon the ideas that he aims to explore in Chapter 3 (a film that will finish the trilogy “in our minds,” according to Stahelski):

We are going to put in something about the High Table, how that all works. We’re going to put in something about where John comes from, and where he wants to go. I don’t want to say too much more, but it will be a nice completion to Mr Wick’s journey.

I hope these are flashblacks and not a sign of a prequel, as awesome as that would be. I wouldn’t mind a fourth film that explores fully John Wick’s origins. I’ve heard a TV show is possibly in the making just for that express purpose, but without Keanu, well, it’s like 24 without Kiefer. No. Perhaps they’ll explore John’s past in an interwoven fashion, and I’d like to see John Wick 3 end like Cowboy Bebop. Bang!
