For the upcoming Dwayne Johnson Rampage and from his Instagram, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has posted a set photo, backdropped by a large green helicopter, of the former actor standing astride The Rock and Naomi Harris. The movie is based (very loosely by the looks of things) on the ’80s arcade video game of the same name, which saw players finally get to play as the monster for a change and attempt to destroy a stream of hapless cities while fending off the forces of the military. Morgan, in his dapper business suit, plays a member of OGA, or other government agency.
Plot: Rampage follows Johnson as primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
Rampaging nights with my partners in crime, Naomie Harris and Jeffery Dean Morgan. The animal loving anti-poacher Ranger from Rwanda, the groundbreaking geneticist from CRISPR and the cowboy himself from the OGA – the "other" government agency. Three gigantic mutated monsters (silverback, crocodile and grey wolf) rampaging across the country. Party in hell. We'll see you there. #OnSet #Rampage 4-20-2018
My take: looks like shit to be honest. Just another Dwayne Johnson empty-headed money-maker, like San Andreas. I just don’t see this movie doing anything but maybe a $100M over its run-time lifetime. Really, it’s one thing to make movies based on AAA game title, but Rampage? Looks like The Rock bit off more than he could chew. Eight bits more.
