Some good news for a change out of Paramount’s Transformers camp, and from a producer working on the movies: Bumblebee will return to his roots in the spinoff prequel film Bumblebee.
It should be interesting to see what form the young character takes, and whether or not it’s another Camaro, as it was in the first Michael Bay Transformers films, or some other design, say a punch-buggy Volkswagon.
And I quote: In an interview with ComicBook.com, Transformers: the Last Knight producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura was asked what vehicle he would like to see be turned into a Transformer for future iterations. His answer to the question let slip some minor details about the designs we can expect to see in the 80’s set spinoff:
“That we haven’t done? Oh, I don’t know. You know I am looking forward to in the Bumblebee movie reliving the eighties Transformers and what those kind of cars can look like, so I think that’s really fun.”
So what other forms could he take, besides the two given? A van? A sedan? If you look over the car design from the 1980s there aren’t that many that would fit Bubmbelbee’s look and feel. One wonders if Volkswagon would recant on their refusal to lend their iconic look to a “war machine” for this movie, if there were no war. It’s certainly a good question.
Bumblebee will be directed by Kubo and the Two Strings‘ Travis Knight and that it begins production in August.
