I was ten years old when I saw JAMES CAMERON’S TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY for the first time. MINKOWSKI and I found a copy of the movie at BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO. We didn’t have money for it right then, so we hid it under a pile of older movies and came back for it later.
Hollywood doesn’t make movies like TERMINATOR 2 anymore. Now it’s one comic book film after another. SPIDERMAN, HULK, CAPTAIN AMERICA, I became bored with these sort of movies a long time ago. HOLLYWOOD has become fat, lazy, and greedy. It continues to make comic book films because it knows they will bring in the big bucks. HOLLYWOOD isn’t willing to risk its neck like it once did. Where are the films like BACK TO THE FUTURE and INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE? Where’s the originality? Where’s the heart? I don’t see any of that in movies like TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. TERMINATOR 2 was different. It was a movie about love, forgiveness, and redemption. MICHAEL BAY’S TRANSFORMERS was just about robots fighting each other in cities marked for destruction. It was really annoying. When I read the screenplay for the first TRANSFORMERS, titled PRIME DIRECTIVE, I thought it was a joke. The screenplay called for the TRANSFORMER BUMBLEBEE to urinate on a human. IS THIS FOR REAL? I wondered. WHERE IS THE “REAL” SCREENPLAY? JAMES CAMERON is an artist. He isn’t just about explosions and sword fights on a highway. MICHAEL BAY isn’t a bad director, but he does need better screenwriters. A robot pissing, which it should not have ability to do, is not funny. HOLLYWOOD should learn how to make great movies again instead of milking cash cows.
